Weekly App Practical- Solve a Problem
Application: Evernote
Knowledge: Evernote is a note taking app that serves many purposes. Unlike other note taking apps, Evernote is a cross-platform app, allowing for note-taking, journaling, task and project management, along with many other platforms that people may need to be filed in a digital format. It is used for everything from storage of medical documents to trip planning, recipe tracking and simply daily to-do lists and reminder notes. Evernote also allows integration with commonly used calendar apps, allowing one to simply copy Evernote reminders as events in your chosen calendar app.
Application: As a person that is often drowning in post-it notes of to-do lists, I often find myself not having the list in hand when it is needed for use. I also am the type of person that will research any type of purchase to no end and find myself filling up my phone storage with screen shots of things I want to buy, places I want to visit, and recipes I want to try. I am the girl that shows up to the airport with a trapper keeper of documents, from airline tickets to hotel confirmations, and even printed information of intended activities or useful knowledge. There must be a more convenient and efficient way for me to store this information in a digital format. It’s time to leave the trapper keeper at home, and rely on my handy-dandy tech friendly friend, the iphone.
Enter Evernote. The evernote app allows me to store all my tasks, and projects in separate and organized notebooks. It allows me to not only type my own notes, but allows me to upload photos, screen shots, documents, voice recordings, print handwritten notes, and allows me to clip articles or information from web pages. With Evernote I can be sure all my documents, notes, daily reminders, and research is one easily accessible place.
Reflection: As a die hard Pinterest fan, I feel as though I will continue to use Pinterest as my mecca for saving particular information, as I can search within the app and save the interested information for revisiting. Evernote on the other hand will be super helpful to me when planning vacations and storing documentation such as confirmations, passport copies, or any other document or travel information or notes I find vital for travel. I spend a lot of time researching when planning trips from hotels and reservations to excursions and local tips. This app will be a very helpful place to not only plan a trip and compile ideas but it will also provide me with a place to store important documents and confirmations necessary for travel. My photo storage will no longer be filled with screenshots, and I will not have to scroll through hundreds of emails for confirmations, or carry a binder with me to feel secure. Unfortunately, like all tech devices, sometimes the internet is down or your phone dies (at the worst time). At this point I might wish I had packed my handy trapper-keeper. One of the most frustrating parts of using the app is that the web clipping tool is only available to android users, and that was one of the most appealing tools of the app.
I would love to see this app more in action. I wonder if you could demonstrate this in class or if we could set up a time to talk about how to use it.
